ETCS Level 2 - The future of rail transport

ETCS Level 2 - The future of rail transport

At a time when efficiency and safety are playing an increasingly important role in transportation, the European Train Control System (ETCS) is a decisive step for the future of rail transport. ETCS Level 2 (L2) in particular is an important development that not only increases safety, but also improves the capacity and flexibility of rail transport. In this blog article, we take a closer look at ETCS L2, how it works and its benefits.

What is ETCS?

ETCS is a standardized European train control system designed to ensure interoperability between the various national railroad systems. It is part of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) and aims to improve the safety and efficiency of rail traffic. ETCS is divided into three different levels: Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3, with each level having different functions and requirements.

ETCS Level 2 - An overview

ETCS Level 2 is an advanced version of the system based on the continuous monitoring of train movements. Unlike Level 1, which is based on fixed signals, Level 2 uses a combination of concreted and non-concreted communication.
